Delmar, IA - Family Traditions

Last weekend, Tony and I made the trip to Delmar, IA to learn how to make grandma's famous applesauce. Delmar, IA is a small farm community where Tony's grandma lives currently and where Kathy (Tony's mom) grew up with her siblings.

The Power family farm had many apple trees, so the tradition of making applesauce evolved.

The "cooks" and helpers

There are two things grandma (Powers) is known for her chocolate chip cookies, and her applesauce. Since it is the beginning of apple season, and too hot to turn on the oven the choice was made for us. Perhaps this winter we will learn the secret to her cookies as well.
